Various parts of the Companies Act 2006 came into force on 6 April 2008. One important change provides that it is no longer necessary for private companies to have a company secretary.
The main changes brought about by new legislation coming into force on 6 April 2008 are:
A material change of use of land or a building will amount to “development” and therefore require planning permission. If a use continues without planning permission, a local planning authority must take enforcement action within 10 years from when the breach occurs. If not, the land will gain rights to continue the existing use and no enforcement action can be taken. A local planning authority can issue a Certificate of Lawful Development if a land owner or a user makes the appropriate application.
